Job Summary

The LiDAR Survey Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining LiDAR equipment, collecting and processing data, and creating accurate maps and models of landscapes and structures. The role involves working in various environments, including outdoor field sites and office settings, to support projects in fields such as civil engineering, environmental studies, and urban planning.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Equipment Operation:
    • Set up, calibrate, and operate LiDAR sensors mounted on ground-based vehicles, static-based, or drones.
    • Ensure proper functioning of all equipment, including GPS units and cameras.
  • Data Collection:
    • Conduct field surveys to capture LiDAR data in various terrains and conditions.
    • Collaborate with LiDAR team lead to plan survey routes or flight paths.
  • Data Processing and Analysis:
    • Use CAD software to create detailed maps, plans, and 3D models based on calibrated LiDAR data and imagery.
    • Develop topographic maps, terrain models, and other graphical representations.
    • Perform quality control and ensure the accuracy of the data.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in LiDAR technology, CADD software (such as MicroStation/TopoDOT, AutoCAD), and GIS applications.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in data processing and design.
  • Communication: Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Problem-Solving: Capable of troubleshooting technical issues and implementing solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree preferred
  • Previous experience in Geospatial data collection, working with LiDAR data in a CAD environment or surverying is preferrred.

Working Conditions:

  • The role often involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions and environments.
  • Fieldwork may require traveling to different sites, sometimes in remote areas.
  • Office work involves data extraction along with CAD deliverables.
